shall be to encourage and promote the breeding of purebred Yorkshire Terriers and to do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection; to urge members and breeders to accept the standard of the breed as approved by the American Kennel Club as the only standard of excellence by which Yorkshire Terriers will be judged; to do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of the breed by encouraging sportsmanlike competition at dog shows and trials; to conduct sanctioned and licensed specialty shows and obedience trials under the rules of the American Kennel Club.
The members of our club are devoted to the Yorkshire Terrier breed. That devotion is translated into activities advanced through education. Our educational activities include participation in AKC's annual "Meet The Breeds" event held at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City each Fall.
Additionally, each year, at our annual February specialty show, we offer a "Meet the Yorkshire Terrier" event. Members are on hand to introduce visitors to their Yorkies and answer questions the visitors and spectators may have. The Club offers a tour of the dog show and explains what goes on "behind the scenes." We have various literature on Yorkies in particular and the many AKC events people enjoy with their dogs of all breeds!
Owners of pet yorkies are invited to join us, too! Come to our Specialty shows and have access to experts in the breed. Your membership and attendance will help support responsible breeding, important canine research, rescue groups and disaster relief for dog owners. You can get information and help on topics such as grooming, health and training. Get the best products and specialty items for your Yorkie at our Specialty Show Boutiques.
